July 11-12, 2019 -- WMR/Justice Integrity Project FOIA Barr's/Rosen's contacts with Epstein attorneys

Washington

WMR and the Justice Integrity Project in Washington, DC, which jointly investigated Donald Trump's and Jeffrey Epstein's alleged rape of 13- and 12-year old girls in 1994 at Epstein's Manhattan townhouse, have submitted an expedited Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Department of Justice for records of all communications between the offices of the Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General between July 1 and July 9, 2019. Our specific request is for all communications between the two offices and past and current attorneys and the law firms representing convicted child sexual abuser Epstein.

This encompasses all possible pre-arrest communications and proffers by Epstein's lawyers on behalf of their client with the AG and DAG; tip offs by DOJ personnel, potentially allowing the pre-arrest destruction of evidence (including DNA residue) at Epstein's residences in Manhattan; Stanley, New Mexico; Little Saint James Island, US Virgin Islands; and Paris, France, as well as on Epstein's aircraft and in his fleet of ground vehicles; Epstein legal team phone calls with the AG/DAG resulting in Attorney General William Barr's unprecedented "un-recusal" from Epstein's prosecution for sex trafficking by the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY), and other pertinent matters.

We decided that a request for communications between the AG and DAG and other federal departments and agencies is premature since such records would very likely be deemed executive branch privileged and dealing with an ongoing criminal case. However, external communications with Epstein's attorneys prior to and after his arrest are in the public interest as Epstein has posed and continues to pose a significant threat to public safety, particularly to past and current sex trafficking victims.

We are inviting other news media organizations -- broadcast, cable, print, and web -- to join our FOIA request or use our relatively successful FOIA template to submit their own requests.
